My Approach

"Welcome to change and to eliminating overwhelming feelings, fears, concerns and challenges...You've taken the hardest step...

Together we make the rest easy!"

From the difficult, defiant, acting out or troubled child, pre-teen or adolescent, to the adult experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, facing divorce, loss, occupational and employment crisis or life re-evaluation, our work together is goal oriented. Trained in many theoretical orientations, I use what works best for the unique individual, couple, or family before me. My work with you is not only collaborative, but empowering and solution focused as you learn about your own personal strengths to develop skills, coping mechanisms, seek options, understand, and make change. Sometimes, much of how we feel is deep in our unconscious inner life and may not be easily accessed by verbal/talk therapy. Evidence suggests that accessing your right brain helps one to eliminate disturbing memories. My training in Clinical Art Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and TIR (Traumatic Incident Reduction) offers other proven therapeutic tools that are non-traumatizing but externalizing and which reduce and/or eliminate uncomfortable and immobilizing feelings.

My comprehensive care includes involvement and interactions with other systems of care: psychiatrists, school systems, child study teams, teachers, courts, and attorneys, to name a few. Together, we set goals, objectives, and tasks to be successful, and along the way increase self-esteem, gain confidence, cope with challenges and improve one's quality of daily living.

Ms. Hammonds offers supervision for Licensure services for LCSW, LPC and Art Therapy in New Jersey and New York.
